MORE STATE
WORKERS
DOWNTOWN

600 COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS
BEGIN TRANSITION TO NEW OFFICES

RELOCATION IS JUST PART OF
MAYOR TONY BENAVIDES' PLANS

Nearly a year after the plan was announced to bring more than 600 of Michigan's Department of Community Health workers to new quarters in downtown Lansing, the move has begun. Some of the state employees will move into the Capitol View Building on Townsend Street while others will move into the Prudden Building on South Washington Square.

The long-anticipated move, endorsed and heralded by citizens and area businessowners as a boost to the continued revitalization of downtown Lansing, has been a hallmark of Mayor Tony Benavides' administration. The Department of Community Health's relocation from Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. is a major setback to mayoral candidates who profess that Michigan's Capital City is suffering from a lack of business investment -- particularly downtown.

Proprietors and owners in the Downtown business district are already endorsing the department's relocation as a tremendous turn of events.

The Department of Community Health's move is expected to occur during weekends until Nov. 13. The relocation will allow the department to consolidate resources, services, and personnel in a central location.
