Preliminary Study Architects

Duce Simmons Associates, Troy
Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Minneapolis

After a national search, Hammel, Green & Abrahamson, Inc. (HGA) of Minneapolis and Duce Simmons Associates of Troy, Michigan, were chosen from a field of 19 applicants to produce a preliminary study for a renovation and expansion of the Kresge Art Museum at Michigan State University.


Kara Hill, Ph.D. and AIA, is Project Designer with HGA, Inc. and the principal architect designing the Kresge Art Museum expansion. She has focused on design of cultural projects since she received her doctorate in architecture from M.I.T. Among her many projects are the Florida State University Concert Hall, Rochester Art Center in Rochester, Minnesota, Como Park Education Resource Center, and Northridge Performing Arts Center Concert Hall at California State University.

Gary Reetz, AIA, Vice President and Principal, HGA Inc., serves as the Museum Specialist. He has much experience with the technical design and operational issues of performing art centers and other cultural institutions. Among his projects are the Valparaiso University Center for the Arts and the University of Northern Iowa Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.

Project Manager is Anthony R. Duce, AIA, Senior Vice President of Duce Simmons Associates. He has worked for more than 25 years on higher education projects. Some of his work includes many renovations at Cranbrook Educational Community, the School of Education and Human Services at Oakland University, the One-Stop Financial and Student Services Center addition and renovation at Lake Michigan College, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Kansas City, and the Law School expansion and renovation for Wayne State University.
